Tests of mixed plantings, incorporating new species
Le 29 August 2023 - Suxy
Objectives
Renewing monospecific even-aged plots is a real headache for many foresters. The future of some of our native tree species and the (silvicultural) issues associated with new species are increasingly integrated into the planning of new plantations.
The day will provide an opportunity to share the experiences of a forester on the renewal of his monospecific coniferous stands towards mixed associative (deciduous, coniferous) and, ultimately, irregular forests.
After visiting a few «failed» plantings, we will go through the stages of planting, from conceptualising the mixture to carrying it out in the field (soil preparation, staking, clearing, etc.). The focus will be on training pruning for some lesser-known species (cedar, Nordmann fir, Hungarian oak, tulip tree, liquidambar, etc.).
